International Grant Programme for artists working in the disciplines of painting, sculpture and photography

The Lepsien Art Foundation is a non-profit organization (NPO) which originated in a private initiative, and devotes itself completely to art and culture and their patronage.
Every year, exceptionally qualified and gifted artists, primarily of the younger generation, working in the disciplines of painting, sculpture and photography can apply for participation in the Lepsien Art Foundation’s international grant programme.
The grant programme is intended as a means of giving artists the opportunity for an intensive encounter with art, active exchange and further artistic development within a community of selected artists.
Applicants must present proof of having completed their studies at a recognized art academy and already have received initial public acknowledgement in their discipline (e.g. exhibitions, publications, etc.). Art students may not participate in the grant programme. The grant runs for a duration of twelve months (two semesters) from 1 September to 31 August of the following year. Apart from a funded studio in Düsseldorf, the grant encompasses the publication of a limited artist’s edition as well as an extensive four-colour annual catalogue appearing in conjunction with an exhibition of the grant recipients’ work at the end of the grant year.

The grant recipients become active participants in the Lepsien Art Foundation’s international network and can thus establish contact with other artists, collectors, galleries, etc. The Lepsien Art Foundation committee moreover selects works by every participant for inclusion in the collection.

The application procedure begins on 1 April of every year. Altogether five applicants are admitted to the programme / awarded grants annually. The application must be submitted by 1 July of the respective year.

In the period from April to July, all artists fulfilling the aforementioned criteria may apply to the Lepsien Art Foundation by sending

> a digital portfolio containing a CV
> index of exhibitions and
> overview of his/her works

to the e-mail address below.

All incoming applications are assessed and evaluated on the basis of clear criteria by a committee made up of several persons. The application committee is curatorially directed by Lepsien Art Foundation curator, Dr. Necmi Sönmez, and includes various representatives of the Lepsien Art Foundation as well as two external curators.

The five winners - the selected grant programme participants – will be notified in writing by 1 August of the respective year. The grant programme begins on 1 September. Interested artists are welcome to enter their names in our database as persons considering application.
